Riot Games has announced that its tactical shooting game Valorant is now available on gaming consoles, including Xbox Series X, Series S, and Sony PlayStation 5. Initially released in a limited beta version, the game is now officially accessible on both PlayStation and Xbox platforms following a successful testing phase.
Currently, the console version of Valorant is available in select regions, including the US, UK, Canada, and Europe. Riot Games has previously confirmed that it will expand to more regions soon. However, as of now, the game is not listed on the Xbox game store or the PlayStation store in India.
Riot Games has also confirmed that Valorant will not support cross-play
“Riot Games has also confirmed that Valorant will not support cross-play, meaning Xbox and PlayStation players will be able to play with each other but not with PC players. This decision was made to maintain ‘competitive integrity.’ However, cross-platform progression is supported, allowing players to carry over their in-game progress, such as Battle Passes, recruited Agents, and purchased skins, between PC and consoles.
Valorant is a multiplayer tactical first-person shooter where two teams of five players compete against each other—one team attacks while the other defends. The game is played in a series of rounds until one team wins a total of 13 rounds. To win a round, the attacking team must either eliminate all defenders or plant a ‘spike’ at a designated site. The defending team wins by eliminating all attackers or defusing the ‘spike’ before time runs out. The game features characters known as Agents, each with unique abilities that are crucial during gameplay.
Gameplay and Objectives:
- Rounds: Each match is played in a series of rounds. The first team to win 13 rounds wins the match.
- Attackers vs. Defenders: The attacking team tries to plant a spike at one of the bomb sites, while the defending team tries to prevent this by either eliminating all attackers or defusing the spike if it’s planted.
- Spike: The spike is a device that the attacking team plants at a bomb site. If it’s planted, the defending team must defuse it to win the round.
- Economy System: Players earn money based on their performance in each round, which they use to purchase weapons, abilities, and equipment in subsequent rounds.
Agents and Abilities:
- Agents: Characters in Valorant, known as Agents, have unique abilities that can turn the tide of the game. Each Agent belongs to one of four classes: Duelist, Initiator, Sentinel, or Controller.
- Abilities: Abilities vary widely, from offensive powers like smoke screens and explosive grenades to defensive abilities like healing and deploying barriers. Each Agent has a set of abilities, including a signature ability and an ultimate ability that requires charging.
Maps and Strategy:
- Maps: The game features several maps with various layouts and tactical considerations. Key map elements include bomb sites, choke points, and cover positions.
- Strategy: Success in Valorant requires strategic planning, teamwork, and effective use of Agent abilities. Players must communicate and coordinate to execute plans and adapt to their opponents’ strategies
Esports and Community:
- Esports: Valorant has a growing competitive scene with numerous tournaments and leagues organized by Riot Games and other organizations.
- Community: The game has a vibrant community with active discussions, fan art, and content creation centered around gameplay strategies, Agent guides, and esports.
- Valorant combines tactical shooting with unique character abilities, creating a dynamic and strategic gameplay experience.
